Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where some players get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in almost all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play easily enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting array of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high, and several battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
