Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before.
