Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
