Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
