Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players in the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
