Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
