Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
