Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
