Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
