Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he liked playing numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games while playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played countless hours and lost most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker players. He theorized he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.
The definite improvement in his game happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often challenge one another. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
