Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
